DIANA LUZ OLIVERA OLIVAS - VINEDOS BAJA CALIFORNIA

I met Camillo Magoni in 1999 at Belle Marie Winery. Camillo was interested in developing a niche in wine market - we both shared an interest and respect for Italian varietals. I mentioned my research project of growing Italian varietals on a lot next to my home in Carlsbad. Also, advised of my connection with Hal Huffsmith, senior VP Trinchero family (sutterhome/montevina) who had made available to me several obscure italian varietals and also my purchase of new italian vines from Novavine Nursery in Sonoma which was the sole distributor of italian vines being produced by Rauscedo Nursery in Italy, the largest grapevine nursery in the world. This was the start of an arrangement we have had for the past six years in which I have obtained various grafted vines and cuttings for Camillo to grow in his vineyard in Baja California. I also have most all of these vines growing in my research project. Some of the italian vines may only now be growing in my small vineyard named Eusinus which is named after the wine shop/vineyard that has been restored in Pompeii Italy by Antonio Mastroberadino using DNA of shards and pips to replant that vineyard as it was before Vesuvius erupted in 79ad. This is because it has been reported that the Trinchero family has torn out their old italian vineyard which contained over 79 different italian varietals.

I have provided Camillo with approximately 8,000 cuttings and grafted vines over the years. There are some 19 different italian varietals; some of these varietals have had 2-3 different clones; 3 french vines and one spanish vine which is very obscure in california, graciano.
